GTA 6 release date and editions: what's actually confirmed
The confirmed GTA 6 release date, both editions with prices, the preload date, and the physical 'code-in-a-box' catch — sourced first-party, labelled honestly.
The single most-searched GTA 6 question has a settled answer, so let’s start there — and since pre-orders opened, the editions picture is now settled too.
Confirmed: the release date
Grand Theft Auto VI releases on 19 November 2026. This is confirmed by Rockstar Games directly, following the earlier 26 May 2026 window — and reaffirmed on 15 October by the official Launch Trailer, whose end card reads “November 19, 2026 · Pre-order now”. When a date comes straight from Rockstar’s Newswire, we label it Confirmed — the highest tier on our confidence scale.
Confirmed: platforms
The game launches on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. There is no PC version announced — no date, no window, no pre-order. We will not list a PC date until Rockstar states one; historically, Rockstar PC ports arrive well after console launch, but that’s precedent, not an announcement.
Rumoured (added 18 Oct): on 13 October GamesBeat reported, citing four anonymous industry sources, that a PC version is targeting the first quarter of 2027. Rockstar did not comment. That’s Rumoured on our scale until Rockstar or Take-Two says otherwise.
Confirmed: the age rating (added 18 Oct)
The ESRB rates GTA VI M (Mature 17+). Rockstar prints the descriptors on its own announcements: Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Mature Humor, Nudity, Strong Language, Strong Sexual Content, Use of Drugs and Alcohol, with In-Game Purchases as the interactive element. You may have seen headlines claiming it’s rated “Adults Only” everywhere. That’s wrong for the ESRB, where Adults Only is a separate rating the game doesn’t have. (Added 19 Oct:) PEGI 18, USK 18, CERO Z, Korea 19+ and Australia R 18+ are all confirmed too. See the real GTA 6 age rating, country by country.
Confirmed: editions and prices (updated 30 Aug)
Pre-orders opened 25 June 2026 (midnight local time). There are exactly two editions — verified directly on the PlayStation Store listings and Take-Two’s own pre-order announcement:
- Standard Edition — $79.99. The full game, plus the Vintage Vice City Pack as a pre-order bonus.
- Ultimate Edition — $99.99 (digital only). Everything above plus the Ultimate Edition Upgrade: bonus vehicles (the ‘95 Grotti Cheetah among them), the Hawk & Little Morgan revolver pair, personalized weapon variants, exclusive outfits and styles, and access to a set of named in-game venues and perks — including the Rideout Customs mod shop, Sara’s Unisex Salon, Stock 305, Electric Fang Tattoo, One-Eyed Willie’s mod shop, a PTT Youngin$ compound mission, and the Paradise Garage safehouse.
- Every pre-order (both editions) includes a free month of GTA+.
There is no Collector’s or Special Edition of the game. What Rockstar has announced (24 September) is “The Goodtime State – Vice City Collection”, a limited Collector’s Box of merchandise themed on the in-game TV show Macca the Gator: a figure, Oakley sunglasses, a New Era cap, pins, a shot glass and a double-sided poster of the full Leonida landscape, arriving 19 November. In Rockstar’s own words: “Grand Theft Auto VI game sold separately.” So if you’re buying the box, you still need one of the two editions above. If Rockstar ever announces a premium edition of the game itself, this article and the tracker will update the same day.
Confirmed: physical copies contain a download code (corrected 19 Oct)
Take-Two and Rockstar’s pre-order announcement says it in plain words: the physical version of the game comes “containing a download code inside the box” and is “available starting November 12, 2026 to support pre-loading”. That part is Confirmed. It’s also why a GTA 6 disc on sale anywhere is a bootleg (how those scams work).
Correction: until 19 October this section said Rockstar’s own copy didn’t spell this out. It does. The sentence is in the pre-order announcement, and we missed it. The label has moved up.
Two details are still Likely, one notch below Confirmed, because the announcement doesn’t state them in so many words: that there’s no disc at all, and that the code is redeemed to one account, which would rule out lending and used-copy resale. Physical copies reach retail on 12 November 2026. Digital pre-load opens earlier, on 10 November (midnight local time on PS5, 00:00 GMT on Xbox), and needs up to 212 GB. Rockstar announced both on 3 November, moving pre-load forward from the 12 November in the June announcement. All Confirmed.
Why we bother separating this
A lot of GTA 6 coverage blurs “confirmed” and “leaked” into one confident-sounding paragraph. That’s how bad information spreads. Our model is the opposite: every claim above carries its label, each is tracked individually on the confirmed-vs-rumoured tracker, and when a status changes, the update is dated and public.
For everything location-related, the same discipline drives the Leonida Map: every point carries a confidence label, and nothing is presented as official unless Rockstar has confirmed it.
