Is GTA 6 rated Adults Only? The real age rating, country by country
GTA 6 is rated M (Mature 17+) in the US, not Adults Only, and 18+ almost everywhere else: PEGI 18, USK 18, CERO Z, Korea 19+, Australia R 18+. Each one read from the official store pages, with what the badges mean.
A headline doing the rounds says GTA 6 has been “rated Adults Only in every major market”. That’s half right, and the wrong half matters if you’re in the US. Here are the actual ratings, read off the official store pages one country at a time.
The short answer
| Where | Rating | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| United States & Canada | ESRB M (Mature 17+) | 17 and over. Not “Adults Only”. |
| UK & Europe | PEGI 18 | 18 and over. PEGI’s own wording: “adults only”. |
| Germany | USK 18 | 18 and over. |
| Japan | CERO Z | 18 and over. Sony won’t sell it to under-18s. |
| South Korea | GRAC 19+ | 19 and over. |
| Australia | R 18+ | Restricted to adults. |
All six are Confirmed on our tracker scale: we read each one on PlayStation’s own store page for that country.
Why “Adults Only” is wrong in the US
In North America, “Adults Only” is a separate ESRB rating, AO, one step above M. GTA VI doesn’t have it. The ESRB rates it M (Mature 17+), and Rockstar prints that rating with its descriptors on its own announcements: Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Mature Humor, Nudity, Strong Language, Strong Sexual Content, Use of Drugs and Alcohol, plus In-Game Purchases. PlayStation’s US store page shows the same M badge.
So “rated Adults Only” says something very different to a US reader than to a European one. In the US it names a rating the game doesn’t have.
Why it’s sort of right everywhere else
Outside North America, every board we checked puts the game at 18+ or higher:
- PEGI 18 (UK and most of Europe), with Drugs, Sexual Content, Violence and In-Game Purchases descriptors. PEGI itself describes an 18 as restricting a game to “ADULTS ONLY”, which is probably where the headline came from. One quirk: PEGI’s public search doesn’t list GTA VI right now. A detailed PEGI summary was reportedly posted and then pulled on 2 October. The rating is live on the store, but the board’s own entry isn’t.
- USK 18 in Germany.
- CERO Z in Japan, with Crime and Violence descriptors. Sony’s Japanese page says Z-rated content isn’t sold to anyone under 18 and has to be bought with a credit card. One outlet reported it in mid-October before anyone could back it up. It’s now on Sony’s own page.
- GRAC 19+ in South Korea, the strictest number on the list, with descriptors for crime, drugs, language, sexual content and violence.
- R 18+ in Australia. The government’s National Classification Database also holds a record, classified on 27 August 2026 at R 18+ for “high impact violence, sex scenes and drug use”. That record covers a GTA VI demonstration (the footage), not the full game. If you saw “rated R18+ in Australia on 27 August”, that’s the record behind it.
What the ratings tell you about the game
Descriptors come from each board’s own review, so they’re one of the few looks at the game’s content that doesn’t come through Rockstar’s marketing. Every board whose descriptors we could see (ESRB, PEGI, CERO, GRAC) flags violence. Three of those four also flag drugs and sexual content (CERO lists crime and violence only). ESRB and PEGI both list In-Game Purchases, even though the game launches single-player. Our GTA Online article covers what’s actually been said about online.
Parents: the practical bit
Wherever you are, this is an adult game: 17+ in the US, 18 or 19+ everywhere else we checked. PlayStation’s own GTA VI page points parents to the age restrictions in the PlayStation Family App, which work off these ratings.
