GTA 6 is turning Miami into Vice City: every real-world tie-in, checked
Miami-Dade's $3.9 million Rockstar deal (airport walkways, PortMiami, traffic-signal wraps), E11EVEN's NINE1NINE night on 6 November, the Heat's Vice City night on 18 November, Wynwood Walls, banners and beach chairs. Each one sorted into confirmed, reported or undecided.
Rockstar is putting Vice City’s name on real Miami. The tie-ins have piled up since September: a rooftop sign, an NBA game, ten new murals, downtown banners and now a county-wide package worth $3.9 million. They’ve also split local government down the middle.
Updated 2 November: Miami-Dade has announced its full deal with Rockstar (airport walkways, PortMiami, traffic-signal wraps), and E11EVEN becomes NINE1NINE for one night on 6 November. Both are below. Here’s each one, sorted by how sure we are of it, with the real-world places that line up with records on our map.
Confirmed by the organisers
The Heat become “Vice City” for a night: 18 November. The Miami Heat’s own page announces “A Night in Vice City”: Heat vs Milwaukee Bucks, 18 November 2026, 7:00 PM ET, the eve of launch. The arena is billed as “Kaseya Center – Vice City”. The team will play on a one-night-only court in a “completely reimagined” uniform, and Court Culture Vice City apparel is already on sale. It’s the one launch-week event with a confirmed date, time and venue.
E11EVEN becomes NINE1NINE: 6 November. The game’s first trailer, back in December 2023, flew a banner for a fictional Vice City club called NINE1NINE, an obvious nod to E11EVEN, the 24-hour downtown club. Now the club is returning the joke. Its own ticket page bills Friday 6 November as the “IRL grand opening of NINE1NINE Vice City’s Sexiest Nightclub”, with Flo Rida, “in celebration of GTA6”. Entry is 21+ and ticketed. The page doesn’t mention Rockstar, so as far as we can tell this is the club’s own event, not part of Rockstar’s campaign. In the game, NINE1NINE is on our map, Confirmed in trailer footage.
Wynwood Walls: free entry and ten new murals. The Wynwood Walls museum announced on 13 October a “presenting partnership with Rockstar Games”. Miami-Dade residents get free admission until 2028, and ten new murals of original GTA VI in-game artwork stay up until 1 January. The artists are ATOMIK, Tatiana Suarez, Askew One, DENIAL, FAILE, Gons and Audet, Lady AIKO, Queen Andrea, Ron English and Tristan Eaton. Eaton’s mural is on the museum campus; the rest are around the Wynwood neighbourhood. There’s also an “Art of Vice City” merch line from 15 in-game artists.
That release, which carries Rockstar’s own boilerplate, includes the most useful sentence in this whole story for map-watchers: the game “features an area inspired by Wynwood Walls — called Stockyard — within Vice City.” Stockyard District is already on our map, Confirmed by Rockstar. The real-world inspiration is a newer detail, and like everything else it goes through our verification gate before the record changes. A partner’s press release is good evidence, not automatic evidence.
Likely: reported by local newsrooms
“Welcome to Vice City” on the Kaseya Center roof. Local 10 reported that giant pink-and-white letters were lifted onto the arena’s roof by helicopter on 22 September. WLRN reported the county had struck an “almost million-dollar” deal. The Miamian puts it at $975,000 over seven months, signed by Mayor Daniella Levine Cava’s office under her authority to approve contracts below $1 million without a commission vote. Several commissioners and the county sheriff objected. WLRN quotes a commissioner saying the game glorifies crime. Another, whose district includes the arena, said he plays GTA himself and backed the deal.
Downtown banners. The City of Miami voted to let Rockstar pay permit fees for oversized banners on private buildings, with no city property used, CBS News Miami reported. The fees go to a heritage trail in Overtown. The Miamian reports up to $1.2 million for six temporary banners; other outlets report the banner window opened on 15 October.
Branded beach chairs and umbrellas. Miami Beach’s commission voted in September to pursue GTA VI branding on beach concession gear. The vote was split, and Commissioner David Suarez argued against it at the meeting, CBS News Miami reported. The Miamian reports legislation worth up to $4 million to the city. Reports since disagree on whether the deal is done and the branding is actually on the sand. We haven’t confirmed that it is.
The county deal grows to $3.9 million: airport, port and traffic signals. On 29 October Mayor Levine Cava announced Miami-Dade’s full marketing package with Rockstar, WLRN reported. It’s worth $3.9 million (WLRN’s headline rounds it to $4 million) and includes the $975,000 arena sign. Under it:
- Miami International Airport gets themed displays on the pedestrian walkways between the parking garages and the terminals.
- PortMiami gets similar advertising and decorations; the county released a mock-up of themed lighting at the port.
- Traffic-signal cabinets across the county get GTA VI wraps.
Rockstar pays to install and remove all of it, and the county says the money goes to a public park behind the Kaseya Center that has been stuck for more than 30 years. The mayor’s office says Rockstar approached the county. Criticism hasn’t stopped. WLRN names Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz and Commissioner J.C. Bermudez among the critics, and reports that several commissioners objected to the administration going ahead without a vote of the full commission.
Earlier ideas don’t appear in the announced package: Metromover stations dressed as Vice City, and the “Vice City” manhole covers Local 10 reported from a county proposal. Before the announcement, The Miamian reported the question was due back at the commission on 20 October. We haven’t found a published result for that meeting, so we’re not reporting a vote either way.
For map readers: the game has its own versions of the airport and the port. Vice City Airport is Confirmed in trailer footage, and VC Port is Confirmed by Rockstar.
Rumoured: reported, but thinly
- Real cars in GTA livery. A fan account posted photos, picked up by Insider Gaming, of a Corvette wrapped as the game’s Coquette and a Lamborghini in “Vice Beach Police” colours driving around Miami. Rockstar hasn’t commented, so we can’t confirm it’s an official campaign.
- An airship, plane banners and beach gear over and along South Beach. Enthusiast press only so far.
Outside Miami
The campaign isn’t only local. PlayStation ran a GTA VI theatre at Tokyo Game Show in September. A tower beside the Paris Périphérique has been wrapped in GTA VI art. French press report that the town of Bagnolet confirmed authorising it, but the link to Rockstar rests on a fan account’s post. A Paris cinema is reportedly holding a launch-night screening; it’s run by an events company, not by Rockstar.
Britain joins in (added 5 Nov). Selfridges says a GTA VI experience starts there from 9 November. It hasn’t said at which stores or what the experience is.
Why we cover this
None of this is game content, and none of it changes a pin on our map. But it’s the clearest sign yet of how closely Vice City is modelled on Miami: Rockstar and its partners are now spelling out the connections themselves, from Stockyard to the arena roof. When one of those connections turns into evidence about the game, it goes through the same verification gate as everything else.
